After the launch of the city messenger Messenger, interest in it came not only from users. Attackers found an entry point into the internal infrastructure of the development team and gained access to the corporate correspondence.

Inside were work discussions of the architecture, details of the implementation of specific features, as well as correspondence about found vulnerabilities and the timelines for fixing them. The messages contained links to internal services, configuration snippets, and administrative access credentials.

The obtained data gave the attackers a comprehensive understanding of the system: how it is structured, which components are most sensitive, and where security could be bypassed. This creates conditions for preparing further attacks with more targeted and effective impact on the service.
